Happy Black Friday Everyone! Morning news focused on shoppers in line all over town - real hard hitting news!! ;)

Well - I am not playing another record for a while, gotta play this same ole broken record, 4+ weeks of it - thought I was trending all week on the 149 side but alas, my body said "NO! Just kidding", and wound up at 150 on the dot. So, there I go.

Today is our Thanksgiving. I am really looking forward to a wonderful dinner with everyone.

I have come across three bits of "information" this past week searching for a plateau buster that I have read before, but still worth asking about, see if anyone had any thoughts on them. They are:

1. Set Point - the idea that our bodies fight to get back to our set point, whatever it happens to be at the time. It's easier, obviously, to reset it to a higher number - but very hard to find a new, lower, set point.

2. Stalls around 12% body fat - maybe it was on the Built Lean website where I read that most men stall out around the 12%BF point, (which is where I am), as the body fights and the adjustments are tough to break through. Though it felt like a purely anecdotal/observational statement, it felt like it held some merit based on my circumstances.

3. The 10% loss - that our bodies will tolerate a 10% drop(that was 3 pounds ago for me), but then slow, and fight back. Then we should spend some time there, maybe help to re-establish a new set point, and then chase the next 10% drop after that time.

Near as I can tell, (though it is from inaccurate calculators on fat2fit and scoobyworkshop), to get to 9-10%BF i still need 5 more pounds of a drop (also assuming it is mostly fat).

So - with these bits of info in mind, I have re-calibrated the weight loss simulator for 60 days again for this 5 pound loss. Take this last leg slowly. I did it with sedentary exercise settings - and it still says 2000cal/day average.

It's doubtful I will get any surprise "whoosh" from this day through a week from Monday, but stranger things have happened. If I can come back from my golf trip the same weight I left I will consider that a victory. Still, will officially weigh in Monday, before I fly out to Arizona.

Anyway, 200 medicine ball workout and 45 minutes of cardio today to give myself some "room" for our feast this eve. :)

Enjoy your Friday - hope your Thanksgiving was great. Cheers.

br_e_co, Happy Friday. I can't have an honest opinion on what to do when you hit a plateau. However, it does sound like you are on the right track as usual. At the very least you have the desire to want to go past it. On a lighter subject, enjoy your Thanksgiving feast and golf today. J.J.

I agree with number 1. That's what always happened to me when I quit my diet and went on a month long binge. I always ended up right where I started. I don't agree with number 3. The body will not fight back if you are losing weight slowly (1-2 lbs a week) and living a healthy life: eating healthy and exercising. If you would start eating 80% of time healthy and 20% some junk food you would get better results. That means everyday something sweet if that's what you prefer and then maybe every two weeks a slice of pizza or something. That's how I avoided a plateau, it's just discipline ALL the time.

Interesting research, hope you find what is necessary to get those last few pounds. Enjoy today and your golf trip.

Thanks folks. Yeah, Snezica, I am inclined to think I can slowly lose weight and get past the 10% - but if you agree with number 1, then number 3 doesn't seem too far fetched. Still - don't know. Just thought it was all interesting. But yes, absolutely, discipline all the time. Think I am just going to do this slowly. If I am lucky I get 1 pound a month for the next 5 months, then I will be fine.

Yeah, Bill, none of this is an exact science, for sure. I am 46, and it just gets tougher each year. I figure I can get to it by 47.
