Katsolo的日记, 2024年04月23日

Well, durp. Entered yesterday’s info without realizing it. Here we are. Long day yesterday, long walk last night, going to be another long one. Blob down, the rest is meh. Big chunk of this should be over by the end of this week.

Question for the peanut gallery, are walking pads a safe machine for seniors? I don’t see hand rails and it makes me nervous. Mom wants one, I’m wary. I’d rather see her outside walking.

as a member of the gallery of peanuts my vote is no definitely not safe for anyone especially a senior. just one slight mistep and your face planting. not worth the risk, and I really question the durability of them too with how cheap the are. peanut gallery member out ✌️

I'm 70. I would not use one unless I had something to touch balance wise. The faster I walk the more chance of having a problem.

Honestly, I don’t know if it would even be safe for me. I really don’t like the idea.

I would worry about no handles. Especially for a senior!

I think a lot of times the walking pads are used as an under desk treadmill for a standing desk, if used that way, there’s something to hold onto. But no, I would not want my own mother using one.

I’m going to talk her out of it. There is plenty of equipment she can use at my house, including the pool. My gut just says this is dangerous to do alone, no matter who you are.

I'm a nut, but maybe not a peanut, so I'll add to the consensus. It looks particularly dangerous to anyone that might not be very, very steady unless under a desk. Personally I take my life in my hands using a Rebounder (mini trampoline) in the living room so I can see the TV, but there is a tall plant stand next to it that I could use to steady myself if necessary. Funny thing is, I've never needed it, but I am much less steady walking straight ahead, and often sidestep and have to catch myself, so I definitely wouldn't walk on that thing. When walking with my husband I always put my arm through his because we are both unsteady, so together we balance each other out. Why am I still safe on the Rebounder? I don't know, but I use it every day. I am especially careful getting off of it though, because that is when it scares me. Oh, I'm 82, and my husband is 88 (usually on oxygen). Daring, aren't I, but unsteady can happen at any age with health problems.

I would say a definite NO.

My grandma has a little portable pedaler thing.. she sits in her loveseat and pedals while watching tv. Great for keeping the blood flow in her legs during the day when she can’t go outside and no chance of her hurting herself. Maybe one of those things?
