I'm a retired telephone/Internet tech. Love crafting, birds, and of course anything technology. I've been a volunteer at the local libraries tutoring English as a second language, citizenship, and crafts to adults for over 30 years.

I have always been overweight (even as a child) and an insulin pen carrying type 2 diabetic for close to 15 years now. Trying to lose weight is a struggle when you have to take insulin. It's been a lifelong battle for me to lose and keep the weight off. The past 20 years has been the hardest. And trying to coordinate carbs with insulin doses is a challenge to say the least

I am trying to find a food program that works best for me. The standard diabetes diet that the doctors and nutritionists direct me to just does not work. The diabetes foundation allows too many carbs, so I am trying to fiddle with it and determine just how many my body is happy with and lose the weight for good. I have a bad habit of staying on diets for about 5 months, doing well, and then blowing it and gaining all the weight, or even more, back. This time I need to find a way to stay motivated.

Fat Secret claims (along with other sources) that I should be eating 1,200 calories per day but that amount is too high for me. I can never lose weight on that many so I try to stuck to around 1,000. Also the standard diabetes diet includes too many calories and way, way, way over the carbs that my body will tolerate without taking more

Anyhow, I want to make a commitment to myself and to Fat Secret that I promise to stick to this diet (with whatever medical modifications I need to make) for at least 1 year which is twice as long as I've lasted in the past. I need to recognize that I will make mistakes, give in to temptation, and at times fall off the wagon, but I promise to get right back on. Most of all I will lose these extra 50 pounds for good this time.
